Homeschooling....RE-Defined!!

"Train up a child in the way
he should go."
{Proverbs 22:6}

I've been homeschooled since day one of my School career, and I am still loving it ;)

Let's just get this clear really quick...
Yes, I have friends!! (Lots actually)
No, I'm not socially awkward.
And for pete sake...
No, I'm not "Sheltered."

With Homeschooling comes it's ups and downs,
but Home-schooling I would have to say...
Is the very best thing that has ever happened to me!!

I have been asked probably one million times in my Life...
"So what School do you go to???"

In that split second of waiting to answer these curious peers,
My mind races with thoughts of what they will
think, when I say "Oh, I'm homeschooled."
I mean what if they think I'm like a weird Bible thumper who has no friends and wears all last years clothing.
I mean what if they think that I am just a social out-cast?

As soon as you say that simple twelve letter word..."Homeschooled"
Twenty-five billion other questions come flowing from their mouth...

Do you have any friends?
What do you do for Gym?
Will you be able to get into College?
Can you do you school work outside?
Do you have snowdays too?
What about Lunch...do you pack one?
So what curriculum do you use?
Are you allowed to take a day off whenever?
Do you have uniforms?
Who teaches you?
Do you wear P-jays all day everyday?
School on the weekends?
Do you have to take the GED?
Is your Dad your principal?
Are you allowed to watch TV?
Are you un-schooling?
Where do you do your school work?
Do you have a classroom?

The List, Unfortuantley Goes on seriously forever...
If you're homeschooled and are reading this, you understand exactly what I mean and where I am coming from.

The Culture we live in today defines homeschooling as something so foreign, something more as an option or an easy way out of getting an actual proper education...instead of defining it as an incredible way to learn in the comfort of your own home!

But of course our culture wouldn't know that Homeschooling is really actually an intriguing experience because some of us homeschoolers & homeschooling families don't know how to 'properly' define ourselves.

What do we say to those curious peers when those questions are asked...
How do we truly define ourselves as homeschoolers?!

Yes, we may be homeschooled,
but we are NOT social out-casts, we are normal educated people just like everyone else!
Keep that in mind the next time you ask a homeschooler about their life :)

Also remember that Homeschoolers know homeschoolers...Basically everyone knows everybody, or at least has heard of you! We are quite the community, of Brothers and sisters in Christ!

As I stood in the Gymnasium this morning at our Homeschool Co-op program and watched all these families rush in to meet for the morning announcements...
I looked around and thanked God for this incredible Homeschool Community we are so very blessed to be apart of!!

As a Big Homeschool Community
we have had our ups and downs,
our struggles and our success'.
But that's what Families are about,
It's about learning from our mistakes and moving on, and to extend the Kingdom of Heaven on the earth and to look at situations through Christ's eyes and not our own.

Today I am thankful for our Homeschooling Community,
where everyone is Family!!
I am thankful for the Freedom in our Country to have the opportunity to Homeschool!
I am thankful for being able to properly define ourselves as Homeschoolers!

Until Next time,
