It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Ahhh...it's that time of the year again! :)

Christmas cards, Christmas play practices, choir practices, cookie exchanges, dinner parties, lights, wreaths, gifts, tree...
The whole 9 yards!!!

I think the reason why I am so excited for Christmas this year is because last year I was really sick the entire Christmas break & could hardly swallow or taste anything...
It was the worst.

Anyways, today I am going to talk a little bit about some traditions me & my family have :)
Call me a traditionalists if you want, but I love traditions!

Here is our little list of Christmas traditions & why I am grateful for each one!

1. Make Home-made Donuts with my Mema! This is one of my favourites not just because we make dozens & dozens of golden donuts, but because we get to spend quality time with my Mema in her warm & cozy kitchen!
I am grateful for my Mema & for her secret family donut recipe ;)
Yeah that's right I'm not posting that recipe as well lol ...
Maybe someday we will have a cooking post with Mema & she will reveal her secret ;)

2. Be a part of the Christmas Choir at church! This is always so much fun being able to get know to people I wouldn't usually talk to during the practices!
I am grateful that I live in a Country that I can sing about Jesus & be bold in my faith :)

3. Watch a Christmas movie on the big screen!
Another one of my favourites!
We all pile into the living room & dad puts up a huge screen (a concoction of a white sheet, large pole, Kleenex boxes,& chip clips... Don't ask...as long as it stays up there I'm good lol)  on the far wall & sets up his projector, plugs in the DVD player= instant movie theatre!
I am grateful for my Daddy & his tec skills, So that we are able to watch Christmas movies in style ;)

4. Be apart of the Christmas parade!
Even though we freeze our buns off, it is still a great time being able to be a part of our hometown in that way spreading Christmas Cheer!
I am grateful for the Community we live in :)

5.  Chinese food with the Ladies!
This may sound odd, but every year a couple weeks before Christmas all the women folk of our family head out to a local Chinese food place for Buffett!
I am grateful for Buffet & all the yummy pleasures that come with it!
(This is a long standing tradition in my family since my Mema started this with my mom when she was a teenager!)

6. Christmas Eve afternoon at Mema & Grandpa's!
This is when all of the family gathers together for many yummy snacks & we open our gifts on Christmas Eve too... You know you're spoiled when! ;)
(then we are back the next day for the big Christmas meal too)
But before we tear away at all the gifts & the Christmas paper goes flying,
we all gather around & Grandpa reads, the Nativity story...like he has been doing for the past 20 plus years!
When Grandpa reads the room is filled with an abundance of peace.
I look around at my growing family with all their smiling faces & think to myself,
I am so grateful for my family!

7. In the hot-tub on Christmas Eve night!
This is a tradition that started awhile back at My great aunt & great uncles house... all of us kiddos would slip out into the hot tub on Christmas Eve during our extended family gathering ;)
It is now a tradition we do with our family in the comfort of our own home!
(recent purchase of a hot tub)
Last year it actually was snowing quite a bit while we were in the
Hot-tub... Absolutely gorgeous!!
Oh the memories!
I am grateful for Hot-tubs!
(as silly as that sounds)
& being able to just relax with my family!

8.  Waiting at the top of the Stairs Christmas morning!
My parents have this thing that we are not allowed to go down stairs on
Christmas morning till mom & dad are up & downstairs waiting for us to come down...
( I don't know why but, it's fun!)
It is always such a crazy amount of excitement in that stair case as we wait for them to call up & say
"We're ready!"
As soon as we hear those words we all make a dash for the living room :)
It might be just me, but everything just seems more magical on Christmas morning having to wait!
I am grateful that my parents make us wait, while the excitement builds up!

9. Christmas Morning Pillsbury roll & hot chocolate family breakfast!
This is one of the yummiest traditions (besides the donut one)
We have done this for many years now ... This is what makes it so yummy, we put Nutella in the Pillsbury roll, roll it up, bake it, & then sprinkle with a light, frosty covering of icing sugar = heaven in your mouth!
I am grateful for Pillsbury & for their tasty, easy to make creations!

10. Set the table at Mema's!
My sister & I have been doing this for awhile now...
We go to Mema's & set the table for our huge Christmas feast!
So much fun being able to make the table look just right!
I am grateful for this "special job."

11. Dinner at Mema & Grandpa's!
Everything always tastes so good & you can never forget about Mema's famous instant mashed potatoes!
(I could seriously eat them for a week & still want more)
I am grateful for Costco sized boxes of Instant mashed potatoes :)

12. Christmas after Christmas!
Boxing Day travelings...
Every Boxing Day we pack up our things & we head up north to visit more of my Grandparents!
I get 3 Christmas' a year...
it's pretty awesome if you ask me?!
When up north, we all stay at Grandma & Grandpa's for a couple days & have Christmas after Christmas!
This year I am looking forward to big family bowling night!
I am grateful for a Grandma & Grandpa who let us all & I mean all pile in their house!
(It may be crazy, but it sure is fun!)

13. Nana's Christmas!
To top it all off we head up to Nana & Poppa's for our last Christmas meal of the year!
We enjoy lots of fun with my little cousins & delicious desserts made by my Nana!
(best dessert maker in the world I might add)

I don't get to see these members of my family much since they all live far away, so each moment spent with them is a precious memory that we will remember till the next time we have the pleasure of visiting again!
I am grateful for these times I get to see my Family!

And last, but not least a new Tradition in our Family this year!
Something we have always held true in our hearts, but now proudly display! :)

I would love to hear about some of your Christmas Family Traditions :)

Be blessed this quickly approaching Holiday season!
